Athens

Athens was by far our least favorite stop. It was filthy - trash, graffitti, smoke everywhere. The public transportation was next to impossible to use. There were stray dogs everywhere, including in Acropolis - and they were not nice.

It took us over 2 hours to get to the Acropolis (an ancient city with the Parthenon as its masterpiece) I expected it to look like the first picture of this post but this is what it actually looked like. Scaffolding and construction everywhere, which kind of diminishes the authentic affect and feel of an ancient city! Most of our decent pictures were taken from the back of the Parthenon.

It also didn't help the Athens had horrible fires that day. There was even ash falling on us later on in the day when we went to Glyfada.

An outdoor ampitheater reconstructed. They actually have concerts here.

Athens receives a DON"T RECOMMEND from us. The city was disgusting and the Acropolis fell way short of our expectations.

oh, i'm kinda sad you didn't like Athens...i'm pretty much dying to go there. it's so fun for me to see the pictures of you guys at the partheneon. i know all the names of the column styles, roof styles... ;) still, it's amazing for your boys to see all this for when they do study it one day in history class.
