Rome

We enjoyed Rome, but it was an exhausting, super hot day. Just getting to Rome was a chore in and of itself. We had to take a bus from the ship to the port exit. Then walk about 10 minutes to the train station. Then take an hour long train ride into the city. So our time in the city was short. We decided to take a tour bus so we could hit all the main sites. It was a beautiful city but so overcrowded and we really needed a few days here to be able to experience everything.

St Peter's Basillica. The Sistene Chapel is in a museum right behind this but the wait was three hours long and we just didn't have the time or money to see it. One thing we learned real quick - Europe is SO expensive. They charge for everything - even using public restrooms!

The Trevi Fountain - a favorite of the boys. Nestled in between massive buildings is this beautiful fountain. Legend is if you throw money in the fountain you will come back to Rome someday. We got caught up in the crowds and forgot to throw our money in. The boys remembered when we were already a block away so we let them run back and through in some Euro. Phew! They would have been stressed if we didn't.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

An old city that is still being excavated. I loved all the history here.

The Colesseum - we want to see the movie Gladiator now. I think I better watch it before I let the boys see it. I'm guessing it will be gory!

Rome was Chase's favorite stop. But as a whole, we give Rome a RECOMMEND. It is really cool to see the history, the Vatican, and the other monuments, but the city is very hard to navigate and it is super crowded!

oh my. ok - we already know i'm an emotional artsy gal. but really, i'm holding in tears here. i really can't tell if its just super-happiness amazement that you got to see the st. peter's basilica, the vatican, etc. I JUST STUDIED ALL OF THIS AND JUST DROOLED OVER MY LECTURES. or if i'm just jealous. honestly, it's probably a mix of both. Chase rocks, i'm glad Rome was his favorite.

I can not imagine spending only a few hours in Rome! That is exhausting! We had a few days! It was much more relaxing! Cool city though! Fun to see your pictures! I really want to go to Greece!
